Chinese vocabulary for clothing

When speaking of Chinese clothing, you must be thinking of the Chinese cheongsam. Because it is a very traditional clothing for Chinese women, is know as the Chinese quintessence and national apparel. But in this article you can not only see the Chinese expression of cheongsam, but also other clothing how to express in Chinese.

First, there are many diffident type of clothing. If according to the classification of combination. It can be divided into the following categories:

1. Upper outer garment:

Please note: the measure word for upper outer garment is "件 [jiàn] "..)
Such as:
Wǒ yào mǎi yí jiàn wàitào.
我要买一件外套。(I want to buy a coat.)

2. Bottoms:

Please note: the measure word for bottoms is "条 [tiáo]".
Such as:
Wǒ yào mǎi yì tiáo niúzǎikù。
我要买一条牛仔裤。(I wanna buy a jeans.)

3. Types of dresses (one piece, because a dress is one piece)

Please note : the measure word for one-piece is "条 [tiáo]  ".
Such as:
姐姐有三条旗袍。(My sister has three Chinese dresses.)

4. Suit:

Please note: the measure word for suit is "套 [tào] ".
Such as:
Zhè tào shuìyī hěn piàoliɑnɡ.
这套睡衣很漂亮 。(This set of pajama is very nice!)

5. Shoes

Please note: the measure word for shoes is "双 [shuāng]".
Such as:
Wǒ yǒu hěn duō shuānɡ ɡāoɡēnxié.
我有很多双高跟鞋。( I have a lot of high-heeled shoes.)

6. How to use in daily life:

1)Go shopping:

When you are in a shopping mall and trying to buy some clothing. You can use this kind of sentence to express your needs:

nǐhǎo,wǒ kéyǐ shì yíxià zhè tiáo kùzi mɑ?
你好,我可以试一下这条裤子吗?(Hello. May I try this pair of trousers?)

Zhè tiáo kùzi yóu diǎn xiǎo,qǐnɡ wèn yǒu dà yīdiǎn de mɑ?
这条裤子有点小,请问有大一点的吗?
(This pair of trousers is a little bit small, Could you please give me the larger one? )

Zhè tiáo kùzi yánsè yóu diǎn qiǎn,qǐnɡ wèn yǒu shēn yì diǎn de mɑ?
这条裤子颜色有点浅,请问有深一点的吗?
(The color of these trousers is a little bit light. Could you please give me the darker ones?)

2)Describe a person from his clothing:

Wǒ xiānshenɡ jīntiān chuān le yí jiàn báisè de chèn shān
我先生今天穿了一件白色的衬衫
hé yí tào shēnlánsè de xīzhuānɡ,tā hái chuān le
和一套深蓝色的西装,他还穿了
yì shuānɡ hēisè de píxié
一双黑色的皮鞋。
(Today my husband wore a white shirt and a dark blue suit. He also wore black leather shoes.)
